KEMAMAN: A couple went missing after a State Fire and Rescue Department boat ferrying flood victims to a relief centre capsized when it got caught in a whirlpool this afternoon.
The missing couple was identified as Norhayati Sulong, 37, a teacher of Sekolah Menengah Geliga and her husband, 37-year-old Suhaimi Awang.
The couple were among eight onboard, including three firemen and all were wearing life jackets.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relation officer Rozizah Abnihajar said all the eight were thrown overboard but the firemen could not locate the couple.
District police chief Superintendent Che Suza Che Hitam said the boat was travelling from Kampung Geliga Che Akob and heading towards a relief centre in Kampung Geliga here when the incident happened.
