Second neutering exercise in March

IPOH: Due to the overwhelming response to its inaugural Trap-Neuter- Release (TNR) exercise, the Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) is planning a second exercise of the same nature in March.

Its president, Ricky Soong, said the second exercise would be held at Gopeng.

“During our first exercise on Dec 14, a total of 45 dogs and cats were neutered by a team of four veterinarians,” he said when contacted, here, recently.

Soong said 30 animals were neutered on that day, while 15 others were neutered the next day by appointed veterinarians.

Of the four veterinarians on duty that day from 9am to 4,30pm, two are from Ipoh while the others are from Selangor.

Soong said the programme was subsidised by ISPCA. “It actually cost more than RM100 to neuter a dog or cat,” he said, adding on that day, owners only needed to pay RM50 for the procedure during the event.

The society, added Soong, welcomed donations from the public for the exercise, which was aimed at lowering the number of strays in the city.

They can visit the society’s Facebook account at www.facebook.com/ispca or call Soong at 012-518 6915.

It was reported that the city has some 30,000 stray dogs. By Sylvia Looi
