Floods: Temporary road built next to collapsed road

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Works Department (JKR) and the Association of Highway Concessionaires of Malaysia are in the midst of building a temporary road as a diversion next to East-West Highway from Grik to Jeli.

JKR Malaysia road maintenance facility director Datuk Abdullah Abdul Rahman said the diversion is expected to be ready by Jan 5.

“This is carried out due to the road closure caused by four locations of collapsed road. The diversion is built to let the road to be accessible,” he said when met at Works Ministry building, here, today.

He said at present there are five federal roads which are still closed including Jalan Kuala Lumpur – Kuantan, East-West Highway from Grik to Jeli, Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang in Kelantan, Jalan Aring-Kenyir-Kuala Jeneris and Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Terengganu,” he said.

He added that Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang is also expected to be opened by Jan 5.

“The road closure will depend on the water level at the area,” he said.
