QZ8501: Little progress at DVI centre

SURABAYA: There have been little progress at the Disaster Victim Identification centre here as family members of flight QZ8501 continue to wait for latest developments.

Family members began trickling into the holding room at the Crisis Centre adjacent to the DVI operations, waiting for word from the police or Indonesia Air Asia officials.

As of last night post mortem has been completed on six bodies including the remains of Hayati Lutfiah Hamid, the first victim to be officially identified out of 162 people on the ill fated flight that crashed on Sunday at the Java sea.

Two other bodies have also been sent to the centre here at the Bhayangkara police hospital late last night.

East Java police public relations officer Awi Setyono said the DVI process was not an easy task because the various teams involved need to follow strict international standard procedures to ensure every victim was positively identified.

"Those retrieved in the search operations would be sent to Pangkalan Bun and immediately flown here to the DVI centre," he said.
