Ex-Jais director appointed as Shah Alam mayor

SHAH ALAM: Former Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad has been appointed as the new Shah Alam mayor effective on January 2.

The appointment was announced by Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi in a ceremony at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building, here, today.

Apart from Ahmad Zaharin, five local council chairmen also received their appointment letters from Khusrin during the ceremony.

The former Jais director replaced Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan who retired as Shah Alam's mayor on Oct 31, 31 months after he first ran for office on Apr 1, 2011.

His former post will be filled by Datuk Haris Kasim who was former Hulu Langat district officer.

Other new appointments are Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan who is the new Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) chairman, Mohd Sayuthi Bakar (Kajang Municipal Council chairman); Abd Hamid Hussain (Ampang Jaya Municipal Council chairman); Puasa Mohd Taib (Sepang Municipal

Council chairman) and Azlinda Azman (Sabak Bernam District Council chairman).

Mohammed Khusrin in his speech congratulated the new appointees and urged them to fulfill their new responsibilities entrusted with integrity and excellence.
