22 illegal dumping spots in Subang Jaya

SUBANG JAYA: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council has identified 22 hot spots for illegal dumping within the municipality.

Its deputy president Abdullah Marjunid said among the places were Jalan Industri USJ 1/2, Jalan TS 6/5, Taman Industri Subang, Jalan SS 19/6U, Jalan PJS 11/2, Jalan PJS 9/22, Jalan BK 1/10, Bandar Kinrara 1, Jalan Bandar 8, Pusat Bandar Puchong, Jalan Bandar 19, Jalan Wawasan 5/4, Taman Wawasan 5, Persiaran Perindustrian Puchong and Jalan BP 7/14.

He warned that the maximum compound for illegal dumping is RM1,000.

“Most of the wastes dumped at the identified sites were from construction, renovation or demolition," he said.

On another matter, Abdullah said operators of industrial and commercial businesses in Subang Jaya, especially those which produce over five bags of waste per day, were given until end of January to appoint a commercial and industrial waste contractor from either the Subang Jaya Municipal Council's (MPSJ's) list of panel contractors or any of those registered with the council.

This followed complaints by a number of industrial and commercial business operators that the new requirement of licence renewal was complicated as they would have to prepare an agreement which requires them to engage a lawyer.

"We decided that only those industrial and commercial business operators which produced over five bags of waste per day are required to appoint a contractor and for that purpose, they only need to give a letter of appointment of a contractor and letter of agreement from the appointed contractor, latest by end of January.

"The contractors appointed however have to be registered under MPSJ. This is important so that we can make sure that the contractors are responsible for the waste collection and hopefully, cases of illegal dumping can be reduced.

"If the appointed contractors are found not registered under MPSJ, they will be given three months to get themselves register with us. Business operators who claimed that they produced less than five bags of waste per day should prove so as we will carry out inspections," said Abdullah.
