All smiles for BR1M recipients

ALOR STAR: There were smiles on the face of two senior citizens when they received 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) 4.0 first pay-out of RM300 today.

Ahmad Yaakob, 84, from Kebun 500 said he had been receiving BR1M hand-out since it was implemented in 2012.

"I am very happy to receive this aid and the money will be used to repair my old motorcycles and to buy essential items," said the farmer.

Another happy recipient was Ibrahim Saad, 82, from Kampung Bendang Baru, Pendang.

Ibrahim thanked the government for its noble effort in helping to ease the burden of the rakyat.

"It is better for the government to distribute BR1M in stages like this because it helped us to better manage to money instead of spending them at one go," he said when met at Bank Simpanan Nasional branch in Pokok Sena.

Both of them received RM300 today as the first installment when met at the

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, when tabling the 2015 Budget in October, announced that the BR1M 4.0 was increased from RM650 to RM950 for households with a monthly income of RM3,000 and below.

It would be disbursed in three installments of RM300 each, to be paid in January and May, with the balance of RM350 from September 2015.

For households with a monthly income of between RM3,000 and RM4,000, the government would increase BR1M from RM450 to RM750. The assistance would be disbursed in three instalments of RM200 to be paid in January and May while the balance of RM350 from September 2015.

For single individuals aged 21 and above with a monthly income not exceeding RM2,000, BR1M would be increased from RM300 to RM350 a year.
