27 diplomats observe security measure in Sabah east coast

KOTA KINABALU: A group of 27 diplomats who served in Kuala Lumpur visited the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (Esszone) to observe measures taken by Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) to boost security in the east coast.

The delegation led by International Liason Officer (Research Unit) of the Prime Minister Department Datuk Abdul Shakor Abu Bakar arrived in Lahad Datu, last night.

Esscom commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun also hosted a dinner gathering at the Lahad Datu Marine Police Headquarters.

This morning, they made a visit to the General Operations Force base on Pulau Mabul off Semporna.

During the visit, Esscom Operations Centre deputy chief Colonel Mas'od Muhammad briefed the delegates on the current security development in Esszone, which covers Esscom's planning and strategic to curb cross-border crimes including kidnapping, smuggling, and illegal immigrant issues.

Esscom was established on April 1, 2013 following intrusion of Sulu militants at Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu, to stake their claim on Sabah.
