HUTAN MELINTANG: Traders and shoppers at the Batu 12 pasar malam here could only watch in horror as a mentally unsound man stabbed himself in his abdomen and pulled out his intestines.
In the 1pm incident on Thursday, the 42-year old man was walking in the area talking to himself and looked disturbed.
Witnesses said they saw him holding a pair of scissors and dared not approached him.
“The people in the area tried to calm him down. In the meantime, emergency calls were made to police,” said one of them who declined to be named.
However, before police arrived, the unemployed man stabbed himself with the scissors and pulled out his intestines.
“After pulling out his intestines he proceeded to cut them,” added another witness.
The man was later rushed to Hospital Teluk Intan by ambulance for treatment but died at 6pm at the emergency ward.
Hilir Perak deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaki Harun confirmed the incident.
“The case is classified as sudden death,” he said.
