Deaf mute saved in Muar fire

MUAR: A deaf and mute man was rescued after being trapped in a burning house at Sungai Abong here early this morning.

The 30-year-old victim was rescued by firemen from the Muar Fire and Rescue Department who rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 4.30am and arrived five minutes later.

The victim did not sustain any injuries in the incident.

Muar Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Ismail Mahmood said two fire engines with 12 firemen were rushed to the scene.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire had gutted about 60 per cent of the house and the ceiling of three of the rooms had also collapsed,” he said.

Ismail said firemen rushed to the window of the top-storey room to save the victim after family members said that he was trapped inside.

The operation lasted until 6.20am and the fire department are still investigating the cause of the fire.
