MIC: Palanivel begins nationwide tour, meet grassroots members

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel will begin his nationwide tour to meet the grassroots members and shed light on the party's problems.

The tour begins tomorrow in Johor where Palanivel would meet state division members and branch chairmen.

Party vice president Datuk S. Balakrishnan said the meet was for the president to hold a dialogue with the state leaders, and was a request from the branch chairmen.

"These branch chairmen and division heads really want to meet with Palanivel to understand what is really going on.

"Palanivel is not going to the ground to attack anyone," he told reporters today.

When asked whether the tour meant breaking the ceasefire, Balakrishnan insisted that it would not go against the moratorium order by Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"The president is only going to meet the chairmen and give them a clearer picture of what is happening.

"He's not taking a parang to go pick a fight. As an elected president, he has the right to meet members anytime (he wants)," said Balakrishnan, who is also Johor MIC state chairman.
