Those who object to local council elections should have given more plausible reasons than that of race and religion. I thought we should have grown beyond that kind of bigotry and parochialism after more than 50 years of independence and living together.
The benefits of conducting local council elections are not difficult to see unless one chooses to be blinded by self-interest and selfish agendas.
The local community would be the chief beneficiary as the ratepayers themselves, the major stakeholders in the county, are entrusted with the role of watchdog. Incompetent and irresponsible councillors will not have their terms extended. Wastage of public funds will be kept to a minimum, if not eliminated altogether.
Isn't that what we want for our rakyat?
