Floods: Kerry Asia Pacific contributes instant rice noodles

PASIR GUDANG: Kerry Asia Pacific, a member of the Ireland-based Kerry Group, has contributed 990,000 packets of instant rice noodles to families in the East Coast affected by the recent flood there.

The total cost of the instant rice noodles, which has a 22-month shelf life, is RM460,000 and the cost of transporting the consignment to a national collection centre in Subang Jaya will make the entire contribution close to half a million.

However, its operations director KR Sreedharan said the cost was not important to the company, but the value it brings to the those affected by the flood.

"The company has in the past given a significant support to charity and those in need," Sreedharan said.

The consignment were handed over to Kempas state assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrasid Tengku Hamid Jumat at the Kerry Warehouse in the Pasir Gudang Industrial Estate here today.

"The noodles will leave the warehouse in trailers. When the consignment arrives, members of the Defence Ministry will distribute the packets of rice noodles among the affected families," he said.

Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrasid lauded the move of the company.

"It is rare to see a single entity making such a huge contribution under its corporate social responsibility programme for a worthy cause," he said.
