LionsXII down, as Kelantan shares top Super League table with Perak

KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan joined Perak at the top of the Super League table after beating LionsXII 2-0 in Kota Baru today.

George Boateng's Kelantan and Perak, who defeated Armed Forces 2-0 on Saturday, are the only teams in the league with a 100 per cent record after two matches.

Both Kelantan and Perak also have the same goal scoring record of 4-0 after first-half goals from Jonathan McKain and Badhri Radzi gave Kelantan full points against 2013 league champions LionsXII.

Kelantan, who have now won all four of their Super League meetings with LionsXII at the Sultan Mohamed IV Stadium, made three changes from the side which won their opening match 2-0 against Forces last week.

They were also without midfielder Brendan Gan, when he suffered a severe knee injury just five minutes after appearing as a substitute on Feb 7.

LionsXII were coming off a 5-3 win over Police in Singapore but were without the services of Faris Ramli and Sahil Suhaimi, who played in the Singapore Under-23 team's 8-1 defeat by Japan's Under-22 side in a Saturday friendly.

Kelantan only needed six minutes to take the lead as Australian defender McKain dived in at the near post to head the ball in from a corner-kick for his first goal in Malaysian football.

Captain Badhri then doubled the lead three minutes before half-time with a wonderful free-kick into the top right corner after Ahmad Fakri Saarani had been fouled.

Badhri was forced off early in the second half with a bloodied mouth but Kelantan hung on for the win.
