Police arrest teenage girl on way to join IS

KUALA LUMPUR: The police arrested a 14-year-old female student yesterday as she was about to fly off to join the IS militant group in Syria, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.

The girl was held at the KL International Airport (KLIA), he said at a news conference on the ‘Balik Kampung’ drive home safely campaign.

Khalid said the student had made preparations to travel to Syria via Egypt, and the police believe she had a friend or contact in Egypt.

“The girl was influenced by propaganda on Facebook,” he said.

The drive home safely campaign, being held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, was launched at the Jalan Duta toll plaza. -- Bernama
