KUALA LUMPUR: Australian Federal Police (AFP) arrested a Malaysian man and a Hong Kong citizen for smuggling drugs worth more than RM234 million into Australia.

In a statement uploaded on its website, the duo had smuggled more than 100 kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine using a shipping container marked “kids toys” from China.

Upon scanning the container on Feb 8, the Australia Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) found the drugs stashed under modified flooring.

Subsequently a 30-year-old Hong Kong citizen and a 37-year-old Malaysian were arrested in a car park in Prestons,” it said.

It added the men were expected to appear in Sydney court on Thursday for various drug charges and they face potential life prison sentences if convicted.

The authorities have yet to release the identity of the suspects.

The investigations are ongoing and the AFP has not ruled out further arrests, said the statement.
