GENTING HIGHLANDS: The Genting Group donated a total of RM1 million to 50 charity organisations as part of its annual Chinese New Year celebration today.

The charities, which include old folks' homes, orphanages and special needs learning centres, received RM20,000 each.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin presented the cheques to the organisations' representatives during a celebration lunch held at the Genting International Convention Centre here.

Muhyiddin was accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman.

The event, hosted by Genting Group chairman and chief executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay and his wife Puan Sri Cecilia Lim, was attended by some 1,000 guests.

The guests were treated to a wide variety of signature dishes from Resorts World Genting's main restaurants, a lion dance and other cultural performances.
