STPM: Visually impaired student scores 3As, 1B

KUCHING: It was the proudest moment for SMK Batu Lintang when one of their disabled students, Dayangku Aishah Awang Taha, scored 3As 1B in her Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).

SMK Batu Lintang headmaster Saftuyah Adenan said that Dayangku has been blind from birth but the disability never stopped her from doing anything she set out to do.

“Instead it has made her realise she needs to be more hardworking than others.”

“Although her SPM results two years ago was average, she was improving and doing well in her Form Six. We were confident and she has not disappointed us, her results were better than expected,” she told reporters when met at the school yesterday.

Dayangku, who is currently in Kuala Lumpur, was unable to collect the result slip on her own.

“Too bad, she could not come today but I have called the parents and shared the good news,” said Saftuyah.

Dayangku scored A’s for Bahasa Malaysia, Business Studies and History and B for General Knowledge.

With 4A’s, including history in his pocket, Mohd Azri Suhaimi has decided to become a history teacher.

“Although I love history I always get only a B, I wasn’t confident of scoring an A. But thank god, what I got today was totally unexpected,” he said.

Meanwhile, the best student in the school was Denedy Wong Siong Yong who scored 5As in biology, chemistry, physics, general knowledge and Additional Mathematics.

According to the Saftuyah the results are now available online and therefore less people are seen waiting anxiously at the school.

A total of 126 candidates from the school sat for the STPM last year.
