Three men charged with kidnapping college student

KUALA LUMPUR: Two jobless men and a Myanmar citizen were charged at the magistrate's court with abducting a private college student last month.

M. Alif Baharuddin, 21, M.Hanif Norhadi, 27, and Azizullah Idris, 41, pleaded not guilty to abducting Bangladeshi Muhammad Shakhawat Hussain, 31, with the intention of wrongfully confining the victim inside a car.

The trio allegedly committed the offence at the entrance of Pavillion shopping mall in Jalan Bukit Bintang, here around 7pm on Feb 21.

They could be jailed up to seven years, or fined, or both if convicted under Section 365 of the Penal Code.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa did not offer bail to all accused saying that it was a non-bailable offence.

M. Alif and M. Hanif who were both represented by counsel Mohd Zaidi Othman pleaded for RM1,000 bail be imposed.

"The first accused (M.Alif) is still young, if he was in jail, he will not get the chance to build a better future for himself while the second accused (M. Hanif) has three children, his wife and parents to look after," Mohd Zaidi said.

Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin allowed RM3,500 bail with one surety to both accused and ordered them to stay away from the prosecution witnesses especially the victim.

He fixed April 7 for mention.
