Airline customer service assistant jailed for cheating

KUALA LUMPUR: An airline company clerk was jailed four years for cheating a marketing executive of over RM25,000 for the purchase of flight tickets a year ago.

Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hassan Basri handed down the sentence on Shahrul Syamimi Mat Syariff, 24, after she pleaded guilty to ten counts in the Selayang magistrate's court here.

Shahrul admitted to deceiving Faridah Zakaria,26, into believing that she could purchase AirAsia flight tickets to Bandung, Indonesia and Incheon, Korea.

She was accused to have misled Faridah to believe that the tickets were valid which prompted the victim to transfer the money amounting to RM25,450 into the accused's account.

Shahrul committed the offence at three different locations around Batu Caves here between May 8 and June 25, 2014.

According to the case facts, the accused who was a customer service assistant at an airline company had promised the victim that she could get the tickets at a staff price.

Faridah, who was familiar with the accused had trusted her.

However, when the victim arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to collect the boarding passes for 72 people, was informed that the booking number did not exist.

Deputy public prosecutor Arun Jothi prosecuted while the accused was represented by counsel Salehhuddin Salam.
