KUALA LUMPUR: THE social media platform was flooded with condolence messages for the late Sultan Azlan Shah who passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) yesterday.
Netizens from all walks of life also came together to mourn over the passing of the late Perak ruler.
Many also shared their gratitude over the role played by Sultan Azlan Shah in the development of sports, especially hockey.
In Kuala Kangsar, the people of Perak also expressed sadness over the passing of their beloved ruler.
Many also expressed shock over his sudden demise.
Private sector employee Nor Afzainizam Salleh, 39, of Kuala Pari Hilir, said he was shocked when he heard the news.
"He was a Sultan with the people's best interest in mind."
He also recalled how Sultan Azlan Shah played a prominent role in the development of sports.
"I am proud to have had a sultan with such high qualification," Nor Afzainizam said.
For beautician Norliza Abd Hamid, 28, the last she heard was that Sultan Azlan Shah was very sick.
"I did not expect him to leave us so soon. I am shocked over his demise. I really admired him."
Contractor, Yeen Chin Hoo, 36, said he was amazed with Sultan Azlan Shah's leadership.
"He ruled the state fairly without fear or favour. He won the people over with his leadership."
Meanwhile, an air of solemnness shrouded Istana Iskandariah where the body of Sultan Azlan Shah was lying in state.
The Perak flag in the palace grounds was flown at half mast while the staff were garbed in black with black songkok.
A steady stream of VIPs were seen entering the palace grounds.
Earlier, Sultan Azlan Shah's body was brought to the palace in a Defence Ministry's hearse about 8.15pm.
