BUKIT MERTAJAM: A couple and two men were rounded up for illegally possessing an air rifle, a shotgun and 15 live bullets at Kampung Tun Sardon here.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rusli Mohd Noor said the couple picked up in Bukit Mertajam then led the raiding team to detain the two men in Permatang Buloh and Jalan Datuk Ahmad Badawi in Kepala Batas, Seberang Prai Utara.
"Our initial investigations showed that the weapons have been used to hunt wild boars.
"The couple does not have a license for the air rifle and the shotgun the other two accomplices are involved in custody of the firearms as well as the sale of bullets," he said at a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, Rusli said the police also smashed a "Awe Kelate" motorcycle theft gang with the arrest of its six members aged between 17 and 21 from Kelantan.
He said the gang members had been active since February and they were nabbed in Jalan Kubang Semang and Tanah Merah here in two separate operations.
Rusli said the police had also recovered six stolen motorcycles at Taman Pauh Indah in Bukit Tengah and Sungai Nibong, Bayan Baru.
