MIC: Subra confident of winning, blames Palanivel for party crisis

BATU PAHAT: MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said he is confident of winning the presidency of the party based on the support that he has received from the grassroots.

He said the support from the party's branches for his bid for the presidency has given him confidence.

"The support for me is growing and this gives me confidence. It looks promising for me to win," said Dr Subramaniam.

He was speaking to the media after attending a meeting with division and branch leaders of MIC Johor at Rong Cheng restaurant in Yong Peng last night.

Thirteen division leaders and about 400 branch leaders attended the meeting.

In his speech, Dr Subramaniam said the party leadership could have avoided the crisis if they had followed the directive from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

"Instead, party president Datuk Seri G Palanivel was slow in taking the necessary action. As a result, the party is now in crisis," said Dr Subramaniam.

When asked what he would do if he is chosen as president, he said the first thing he would do is to strengthen the party.

"I want to make sure that the party is still relevant," said Dr Subramaniam.
