Abducted Marine policeman Zakiah Aleip released

SANDAKAN: Marine policeman Constable Zakiah Aleip who was kidnapped from Pulau Mabul in Semporna July last year has been rescued.

Zakiah is alive and well here after his release was secured in southern Philippines, where he was held captive by terrorists.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said Zakiah is now back home and thanked the security forces in their tireless effort to rescue him from the terrorists.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar also confirmed the news.

Zakiah was on duty at a resort jetty on Mabul when he was taken by a group of armed men on July 12 last year. In the attack his duty partner Corporal Abdul Rajah Jamuan, 33, was killed.

While in captivity the kidnappers had allowed Zakiah to stay in touch with his wife.
