TUMPAT: A policeman with the rank of Inspector has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations into the rape of a woman who lodged a police report at the station where the suspect is attached to.
The remand order, which runs until Monday was issued by Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi at the Tumpat magistrate's court today.
The remand order is to enable the 38-year-old suspect to be investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
During the remand proceedings, the lawyer representing the policeman, Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin objected to the remand order applications towards his client.
The court however ordered the policeman to be remanded for seven days to facilitate further investigations.
It is believed that the victim lodged a police report after receiving threats.
