ALOR SETAR: Preparations for the 14th general election must start from now and must become the focus of every state machinery of the party.
Kedah Umno Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the party machinery should not wait until the last minute and must immediately increase every activity at voting district centres to identify the problems of voters.
Mukhriz, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar also suggested that every division and branch conducted briefings and carry out discussions in small groups. “Audiences get to know us well, and we can repel propaganda from irresponsible people. It is the only way to overcome the imputations disseminated through social media,” he said.
Mukhriz also criticized some party members who started to discuss the party elections, whilst the actual date was not known.
“We don’t even know the dates, but there seems to be a movement to take positions to strengthen their own internal party campaign. I think that is unproductive and it is not helping us when it comes to facing the general election.
“My recommendation is for us to not think to much about that now because there will be a time to focus on that, not now. Focus more on preparing ourselves to face the general election,” he told reporters after closing a Kedah Umno Convention here, today.
On the relations between the state Umno and the central party leadership, he stressed that there was no problem as spread by irresponsible quarters.
“We are very cordial and friendly, Umno knows how to solve whatever problem arising. Don’t worry about that,” he said adding that the presence of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to open the convention yesterday, showed the prevailing good relationship. -- Bernama
