Hudud law may not be tabled at current session of parliament

KUCHING: The Private Member’s Bill to enable the implementation of hudud law or the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015) in Kelantan may not be tabled in the current session of parliament.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Nancy Shukri said this was because the government has to table several bills in the current parliament session from March 9 to April 9.

“The Speaker (Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia) has received the Private Member’s Bill on hudud but its uncertain whether it will be tabled this time as the government has many bills to table including the bill to combat the IS militant group,” she said when postponing the Sarawak Government Retirees Association annual general meeting, here today.

On March 18, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob tabled the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015) to enable the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan.

The hudud bill was unanimously passed one day later. --Bernama
