Diesel worth RM220,000 seized at Pulau Redang

SETIU: The Kuala Terengganu Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized 100,000 litres of diesel, off Pulau Redang, on Friday.

Its Enforcement chief, First Admiral Xavier Thevandas said the diesel worth RM220,000, believed smuggled, was found on a Mongolian tanker anchored off Pulau Redang at 1am.

He said the captain of the ship failed to furnish a harbour release and had not reported the ship's arrival in Malaysian waters.

"The sample of the oil was sent to the Malaysian Chemistry Department to determine if it was subsidised oil.

If it is, we will refer it to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry," he told reporters here, today. --BERNAMA
