SPAD to decide on fare matter: Prasarana

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) will let The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) decide when would be the best time for the bus and train services fare be increased.

Prasarana group managing director Azmi Abdul Aziz said at present there is no development on the increase of the fare.

“It is up for SPAD to decide on it,” he said when met at Sri Pentas today during a corporate visit by Prasarana to Media Prima Bhd to discuss on collaboration to boost ridership for its services.

On Monday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said the implementation of revised rates for express buses and rail services have been postponed indefinitely, while the new fares for taxis will remain.

Last Thursday, SPAD announced fares hike for taxi and express bus between 20 and 67 per cent for taxi and 22.6 per cent for express bus.

On the same day KTM Berhad (KTM) also announced new fares for its Komuter service with an increase of up to RM7.10, effective May 1.

On a separate matter, Azmi said that the company is increasing the monitoring at construction areas to prevent similar incident like the collapsed ceiling at Masjid Jamek Light Rail Transit (LRT) station on Monday.

He said the ceiling at Platform 1 of the station heading to Kelana Jaya collapsed due to water seepage at the tunnel.

“The incident will not happen again,” he said.

Also present during the meeting were Prasarana's group chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam, Media Prima group managing director Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin and New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah.
