KUCHING: The move by Sarawak DAP to leave the Pakatan fold in the state came to no surprise for its former partner - Pas.
State Pas commissioner Adam Ahid said he had heard talks and rumours that the party was adamant to leave the loose alliance before the announcement today.
Adam, however, hoped that DAP would consider such decision for the sake of the political future of the opposition.
"I do not wish to comment much. If that is their decision,than we have to respect it," he told the New Straits Times when contacted yesterday.
On the reason cited by State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen that PAS had deviated from the PR common policy framework by pursuing the implementation of hudud law in Malaysia, Adam said the former failed to understand the faith of the Muslims.
"It must be understood that the hudud law will only apply to Muslims while the non-Muslims would be tried under other relevant laws in the country," he said.
Asked on Pas relationships with PKR, Adam said he has no problem with the party's state leadership.
Meanwhile, State PKR chairman Baru Bian said the party would issue a statement over the turn of events in the opposition pact.
