No huge turnout at KitaLawan

KUALA LUMPUR: #KitaLawan protest in the city centre earlier today failed to attract large number of participants, despite hyped-up promotions given to the event.

The rally, which also rallied groups which called for the sacking of Inspector-General of Police and anti-GST activists, only attracted some 300 turn-ups.

The participants initially gathered at Dataran Merdeka and Pas headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, before they marched towards Sogo shopping complex at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Several leaders including Pas central committee members Khalid Samad and Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Parti Keadilan Rakyat(PKR) strategic director Sim Tze Tzin, Jingga 13 head coordinator Fariz Musa and PKR's Kapar parliamentarian G. Manivannan, were seen with the crowd. However, no DAP leaders were seen during the rally.

The protesters, who planned to gatecrash Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's daughter's wedding reception, then started marching towards the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Jalan Ampang about 5.15pm.

Chanting and singing songs formulated for their causes, the group reached Wisma Selangor Dredging, located some one kilometre away from the convention centre, about half an hour later.

There, they were stopped short by some 100 policemen, who had set up two layers of barricades.

After a small discussion between the rally organisers and the police, the crowd was allowed to gather on the road for 45 minutes.

The time given by the police was filled by the protesters with singing of their songs and chanting their slogans, before they dispersed.

Meanwhile, city police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Ahmad said police have arrested Fariz to facilitate investigations under Section 143 of the Penal Code for participating in an illegal rally.
