Ramanan says deputy minister role a "huge recognition"

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk R. Ramanan has described his appointment as the new Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister as a "huge recognition."

The Sungai Buloh member of parliament thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for putting his trust and confidence in him, after being announced as part of the new federal administration lineup this morning.

"This is a huge recognition for me. I will try to do my best to provide the best service as deputy minister.

"I will also hold a meeting with the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister (Datuk Ewon Benedick) to get his views and advice.

"We need to work together as a team to achieve success," he told the New Straits Times today.

Ramanan was seen entering Istana Negara through Gate 2 about 12.50pm, for a rehearsal ahead of the swearing-in ceremony before the King at 2.30pm today.

He was one of the five new faces appointed as deputy ministers in Anwar's cabinet reshuffle, announced earlier today.

He replaces Senator Saraswathy Kandasami, who will now be the new Deputy National Unity Minister.

The reshuffle saw a number of new faces as well as a switch in portfolios for some ministers.
