MCPF short video contest on crime prevention, reduction launched

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) has launched a short video contest to gather tips from the public on crime reduction.

MCPF Public Relation and Campaign Committee Tan Sri Datuk Robert Phang said the contest, dubbed 'Cegah' is for the public to share ideas on how to reduce crimes and make the country safer for everyone.

"The increasing number of smartphones and digital devices has made it easy for every individual to become a film maker and to share their ideas," he said during a press conference at a hotel in the city today.

Robert added by involving the public in the effort to curb crime, as the foundation will be able to gather a more comprehensive list of tips and at the same time increase awareness of the importance of crime prevention.

Cegah, he said, would also serve as a highlight that the public plays a crucial role in crime prevention.

Those who wish to join the contest can record their short videos (maximum 3 minutes) and upload it to www.cegah.my. The contestant then must wait for an application approval and share their videos on their Facebook account with their own unique hashtag. One of the requirements to qualify for contest is to share the video for at least 50 times.

Attractive prizes worth a total of RM100,000 are to be won. The 1st prize winner will walk away with RM25,000 cash prize and camera equipment worth RM25,000. The runners up will win RM10,000 cash with camera equipment worth RM10,000. The 3rd prize winner will get RM 5,000 cash and camera equipment worth RM 5,000. 20 consolation prizes each with RM 1,000 camera equipment will be awarded.

The contest runs from March 29 to May 29. Winners will be announced on June. Entries will be judged based on creativity, relevancy and quality of execution.
