Basic salary scale for Kedah assemblymen will be revised: Mukhriz Mahathir

ALOR STAR: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir today confirmed that the basic salary scale for all 36 assemblymen in the state would be reviewed.

Mukhriz said a motion for the matter would be tabled at the Kedah state legislative assembly sitting next week.

"We have to admit that the salary scale for assemblymen in Kedah is among the lowest in the country and the review is timely to reflect the current situation and also to show our appreciation to assemblymen from both sides of political divide," he said after closing the 12th Kedah Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) here yesterday.

Present were national Mubarak president Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Rahman and its state chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Ibrahim.

However, Mukhriz said the quantum of the increment would be based on the state's financial capability and not as big as the amount enjoyed by assemblymen from wealthier states such as Selangor, Johor and Sarawak.

The state legislative assembly had in last November unanimously voted in favour of its assemblymen allowance by RM1,300 making it RM6,961 per month.
