PPR houses only for rent

KUALA LUMPUR: The People's Housing Project (PPR) nationwide is now only available for rent and not as opposed to previously being for rent and sale, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

"We have decided that the PPR can only be rented by eligible individuals, not rented and also sold like before.

"The rate of renting is RM124 per month, and if there are some parties who are not able to pay the rent, we have aid to help them," said Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Datuk Halimah Mohd Sadique.

In response to a question posed by Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah (BN-MUKAH) on the number of PPR in Sarawak, Halimah said that there were another seven PPRs planned for the state.

"The seven projects total up to 1,681 units of houses under PPR. Among them is Betong with 68 units, Kampung Tabuan Melayu with 140 units, Sri Aman with 123 units, Samarahan with 219 units and Petra Jaya with 192 units," she said.

Halimah added that apart from the seven projects still to start, five projects of 3,016 units have been completed this year alone in the state.

"The construction of PPR houses is subject to budget allocation from the central government and land allocation from the state government.

"The ministry takes into consideration the resources given and the necessity of each project," she said.
