Johor PPR, RSK tenants renting out units at rates three times higher than what it should be

PASIR GUDANG: Some 2,000 tenants of the People's Housing Project (PPR) and Rumah Sewa Kerajaan (RSK) schemes in the state were found to have rented out their respective units for up to three times the original rental rates.

The matter irked State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, who threatened strict action including revoking the tenancy agreements signed between the original tenants and state government.

Jafni said since 2022, the state government has been compiling information after receiving numerous complaints about PPR and RSK tenants renting out their units to third parties.

"What is worse is that some tenants are renting out their units at rates up to three times higher than the original rates of between RM200 and RM300 per month.

"This situation has become increasingly prevalent due to the lack of enforcement.

"We have profiled about 80 per cent of the total of 14,500 PPR and RSK tenants in Johor. It is estimated that around 2,000 units were rented out to third parties at higher rental rates," he told reporters after launching the RSK community empowerment programme in Taman Cendana Dua here today.

Jafni reminded all that the PPR and RSK schemes are among efforts rolled out by the government to assist the B40 households to live in the urban areas in the state at low rental rates.

He said to his dismay, facilities have been misused and the state government will take stern action against the errant groups of people.
