30,000 Lotus cars to be produced in China

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 30,000 Lotus cars are expected to be produced in China after a joint venture deal was inked between Proton Holdings Sdn Bhd and Goldstar Heavy Industrial Co Ltd.

Proton chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the joint venture marks a successful venture into the car manufacturing market in China, especially for Lotus cars.

He said Proton had been working to tap into the market almost 13 years ago and the joint venture that was inked on April 17, would accelerate the development of Lotus cars in the premium sports segment in China.

The joint venture agreement was signed between Proton, who is also the holding company for Lotus Group, between Lotus Group International Ltd and Goldstar Heavy Industrial Co Ltd, China.

Both Proton and Lotus Group are subsidiaries of DRB-HICOM Berhad.
