Kemaman by-election: Sanusi optimistic PN has a good chance to win by 30,000 majority votes

SUNGAI PETANI: Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is optimistic that the coalition will maintain its parliamentary seat in Kemaman with an additional 30,000 votes in its favour.

He said his confidence assurance stemmed from the strongest election mechanism in the country, which was in Terengganu Pas.

However, he cautioned them against becoming complacent ahead of the Dec 2 polls.

"Yes, PN stands a good chance (to retain Kemaman) but we must not take things for granted. I have notified our machinery in Kemaman.

"I am not worried about our machinery because the best election machinery for Pas is from Terengganu and they are currently campaigning in Kemaman. We are leaving it to the voters and we are appealing for them to vote for Pas candidate.

"Inshaa-Allah, I am confidence that we will win by 30,000 majority votes, higher that the 27,000 majority votes when we won the seat during the previous general election," he told reporters after launching Andalusia Mosque's 10 years' anniversary celebration in Bandar Laguna Merbok here today.

Sanusi, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar also ticked off Barisan Nasional (BN) for allegedly continuing to use the federal government machinery and apparatus in the Kemaman by-election campaign.

"We (PN) are not using the government machinery but BN is doing that. They (BN) have been using the government machinery (in election campaigns) ever since the country achieved its independence.

"It is not something new although we have reminded them again and again not to abuse the government machinery. The government apparatus, civil servants and the government agencies should have not been used by political parties to serve the interest of political party" he said.

The Kemaman parliamentary by-election on Dec 2 is a straight fight between PN candidate Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri and former Armed Forces Chief General (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, who is fielded by BN.

The by-election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 to annul the victory of Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th General Election.
