Permatang Pauh by-election - Traffic advisory

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Three main roads will be closed for traffic from 7am tomorrow to ensure the smooth process of Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election nomination day at Institut Kemahiran Bina Negara (IKBN) in Jalan Berapit here.

State police contingent spokesman for the by-election Assistant Commissioner Azmi Adam said police expecting traffic congestion in three roads namely Jalan Mengkuang, Jalan Berapit and Jalan Tok Elong for the nomination process.

He said to ease the congestion; traffic from Jalan Berapit would be diverted to Jalan Tok Elong.

"Some 300 traffic police will be on duty to ensure the traffic flow is a smooth sail tomorrow," he said in a press conference at the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters today.

Azmi urged all motorists to abide traffic rules to avoid traffic congestion.

He advised Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters to come to the IKBN from Jalan Berapit while the Pakatan Rakyat crowd to take Jalan Mengkuang

He also warned supporters from both sides to avoid flagging party flags while riding motorcycles as it would cause harm to themselves and other road users.

"Please be there early to avoid traffic congestion and those who park their vehicles would be booked under Section 42 and 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
