Nepal PM calls for blood donation

KATHMANDU: Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has appealed to the public to donate blood for hospitals to treat more than 6,000 people injured in Saturday’s earthquake.

Koirala urged big companies to open departmental stores to ease food shortages following a cabinet meeting held Sunday, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

The government has directed all pharmacies near hospitals to operate as usual and sought donations to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Rescuers on Sunday raced against time to search for quake survivors still trapped in houses and buildings.

Latest reports said the 7.9-magnitude quake has killed at least 3,000 people and left more than 6,000 others injured. –BERNAMA
