87.6 per cent of Permatang Pauh by-election early voters cast their vote

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Permatang Pauh by-election early polls closed today with 549, or 87.6 per cent, of the total 627 policemen, military personnel and their spouses, cast their votes.

The early voting was conducted at two polling centres here namely Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters and Kubang Semang police barrack.

The Kubang Semang police barrack polling centre was closed at 2pm followed by the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters at 5pm.

The Permatang Pauh by-election set for May 7 sees a four-corner fight between PKR candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, BN's Suhaimi, Parti Rakyat Malaysia Azman Shah Othman and independent Salleh Isahak.

The seat fell vacant after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sentenced to five-year jail for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
