Youth hammers father, 73, unconscious with TV set

KUALA TERENGGANU: A youth, believed to be high on drugs, went berserk and hammered the head of his elderly father with a television set following an argument at their in Kampung Losong, Datuk Amar, early today.

The drama unfolded at 6.30am when Tahar Mohammad, 73, confronted his son who reacted by hitting his father with an LED 32-inch television set in the living room, knocking him unconscious.

The commotion caught the attention of the victim's wife Fatimah @ Mariam Abdullah, 67, who witnessed the brutal act and came to Tahar's aid.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said Fatimah rushed out of the house with her daughter to seek help from villagers.

"The suspect, who has been jobless for a month, was subsequently apprehended by villagers about two hours after the incident before handing him over to police for investigations.

"The suspects' urine sample tested positive for morphine. We have yet to establish the motive for the attack," he said.

Idris added the victim was admitted at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital and in stable condition. Police are expected to record a statement from the victim soon.
