MACC arrests father, son for alleged RM10,000 PPR bribes

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained a father and his son after being suspected of soliciting and receiving approximately RM10,000 in bribes, today.

According to sources, both suspects, aged between their 20s and 40s, obtained the money by deceiving the public in relation to applications for houses under the People's Housing Project (PPR) scheme.

They said both suspects were arrested around 3am today in a raid in a residential area in Sandakan.

"The two suspects are believed to have committed the offence in 2023, soliciting money from the public by promising affordable homes.

"The suspects also promised incentives such as home appliances if the applicants could attract more people," he said in a statement issued today.

He stated that all the bribe money was received through cash payments or bank transfers to the suspect's wife's account.

Meanwhile, Sabah MACC director, Datuk S Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrest of both suspects.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 16 (a) (A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

"Several more arrests are expected to follow this case, and the public who have been victims of such syndicates are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation," he said.
