Tun M has no interest to join Pakatan: Mukhriz Mahathir

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir today said Pakatan Rakyat should stop dreaming that his father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was joining the opposition.

Mukhriz said while the longest serving prime minister has his own stand on certain issues, Mahathir never has any interest of joining the opposition cause.

He stressed that his father's criticisms on certain matters was meant for the betterment of Barisan Nasional and Umno.

"If we look at his statements, he clearly wants BN to win in both Permatang Pauh and Rompin by-elections. There is no issue that he is supporting the opposition.

"So they should stop fancying that he would join them (opposition)," he said in a press conference after campaigning for BN candidate Suhaimi Sabudin at Tanah Liat here today.

Mukhriz also took a swipe at the Pakatan for riding on his father's comments on the federal government as their tools in the Permatang Pauh by-election.

On another matter, Mukhriz raised his doubts on whether the Pakatan leaders truly understood the responsibilities of an elected representative to the rakyat in their respective constituency.

He said it was unbecoming for Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to make a pledge to look after Kajang state seat and Permatang Pauh parliamentary should PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail wins the by-election.

The two leaders made the offer recently, in response to BN's argument on Dr Wan Azizah's ability to juggle between her duties as an assemblyman in Selangor and a member of Parliament in Penang.

"It is common for an MP to look after and carry out his or her duty instead of delegating it to others.

"I wonder if they truly understood the responsibilities and duties of an MP," he said.
