KUALA KANGSAR: Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said that his enthronement ceremony today proved the government's effort to uphold the royal institution and preserve its custom and culture.
"It's a continuation of our culture in a modern era. How beautiful and rich our custom and culture are, as they are strongly intertwined in the tradition of our nation state," he said in his speech after he was enthroned as the 35th ruler of Perak at Balairong Seri, Istana Iskandariah here today.
He said the enthronement would also helped preserve the identity of the sultanate civilisation, which had a long history in the country.
Sultan Nazrin said that the people would not question the ruler's power if he did not deviate and continue to abide by the law.
"The sanctity of the royal institution must be protected to ensure that the royalty could continue playing their role," he said adding that history had shown how slander, enmity and hatred had affected the Malay sultanate.
He said the royalty was not a decorative ornament, but was an important component of the monarchy constitution.
Sultan Nazrin was earlier enthroned as the ruler in a ceremony steeped in rich royal Malay royal tradition held in the Balairong Seri.
He was proclaimed the state ruler when Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja, Gen (rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin pronounced Daulat Tuanku three times, repeated each time by all those present.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said Perak had achieved various development and progress thanks to advise of Sultan Nazrin.
He said due to the advise of the ruler too, Perak successfully carried out developments for the people and the state.
"Besides tasting growth that is beyond the national average, Perak is also expected to record high growth this year," he said.
Giving his congratulatory message on behalf of the state government and Perakians, Zambry said as the menteri besar, he would carry out the trust that was entrusted on him as honestly, sincerely and to the best of his ability.
Zambry also said Perakians are lucky to have Sultan Nazrin as the state ruler.
