Nur Atikah will be buried in Kelantan

KUALA TERENGGANU: The State Government will provide RM10,000 to cover the expenses of bringing back the remains of Malaysian student who died following a fire incident at the Russian National Research Medical University campus hostel in Moscow last month.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the body of Nur Atikah Alias, 25, is expected to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) either at 9.45pm Thursday or 1am on Friday.

"Nur Atikah was a final year medical student in the university, under Yayasan Terenggganu since 2011. Although she was born in Kuching, Sarawak, we consider her as our student because her father Alias Yakob is from Besut," he told reporters after chairing the weekly exco meeting at Wisma Darul Iman today.

Razif also said that Yayasan Terengganu will provide transport for Atikah’s remains to be sent to her home in Taman Desa Melati in Kuala Krai from KLIA.

"I was informed that Atikah will be buried at the Muslim cemetery in Kampung Bukit, Jerang Linang, Kelantan.

On April 23, Atikah was injured when a fire broke out at the 16-storey campus hostel which reportedly injured more than 40 people, including 27 Malaysian students.

Atikah died due to respiratory complications at 4pm (Malaysian time) on Tuesday (May 5).
