KUALA LUMPUR: The relocation of the KLIA2's apron (taxiway) from the north to west of the airport area was included in the revised Master Plan in 2008, Dewan Rakyat told.
Transport deputy minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said it was made based on suggestions by Netherland Airport Consultants which cited development flexibility, among others.
"When the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) issued the report on the airport project, it did not take into account the revised design in issuing its findings. Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd spent RM14 million from its own coffers on repair work on the sinking area on KLIA2's apron.
"Three per cent of the 700,000 sqm apron area was affected and reduction of sinking area can be seen every month. The sinking of the apron was caused by the soil that has yet to settle fully when the project was completed.
“It is a common problem at airport like the Suvarnabumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. This problem does not in any way affect the flight operations," he said in replying to a question by Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah (PAS-Kuala Terengganu).
Aziz added that KLIA2 has so far recorded 24 million passengers.
He said based on Airport Service Quality survey conducted by the Airport Council International (ACI) and MAHB, the customer satisfaction score on the airport is 4.85 (out of the full score of 5).
