11MP: Selangor support measures to improve public transportation

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor State government support measures to improve public transportation under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) but hoped that more emphasise should be given on encouraging its usage.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also Gombak member of Parliament, said the target of achieving modal share of 60 per cent private car usage to 40 per cent public transportation should be revised.

"Instead, 60 per cent of modal share should be placed on public transportation and the state government hopes that the target could be revised. We support measures to improve public transportation network to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and ease the congestion.

"We had met the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and MRT Corp this morning on the proposed MRT2 line project which connects Sungai Buloh and Putrajaya to look at the alignment and other details. "

On the Langat 2 water treatment plant project, he said it was agreed that it should not be delayed further.

"We want that the developers to fulfil the conditions set to allow the project to proceed," he told reporters when met at Parliament lobby after the tabling of 11MP by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
