Ringgit opens higher against USD

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit strengthened against the US dollar in early trading today on continuous demand for the local unit, said a dealer.

At 9.07am, the local unit was higher at 3.5870/5900 against the US from 3.6010/6030 at 5pm on Thursday.

The dealer said investors turned their interest to other currencies, including the ringgit due to weaker US economic data which prompted market talks whether the US Federal Reserve would raise its interest rates later this year.

The ringgit was higher against other major currencies.

It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.6913/6940 from 2.6974/6995 yesterday and appreciated against the yen to 2.9657/9694 from 2.9790/9816 previously.

The local unit advanced against the Euro to 3.9887/9924 versus yesterday’s 4.0169/0199 and increased against the British pound to 5.6205/6270 from 5.6399/6441 on Thursday.--BERNAMA
