DPM: Evaluate information spread over social media

REMBAU: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the people to evaluate information spread over social media and not to be overly consumed by unsubstantiated claims aimed at destabilising the government.

He said it was regrettable when people easily get carried away by the sensationalism of such claims, but do not pay attention to the government’s plans and efforts which directly affect them.

"It is easy in this day and time to quickly spread all sorts of news as the technology available allows us to do so, but let's look at the reality of it," said Muhyiddin.

"Why don't we pay attention to things such as the 11th Malaysia Plan and give us feedback on that? It is a real plan, put in black and white for all to see and evaluate."

He was speaking after officiating the Ilham Desa Awards here today, which was also attended by Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

"The government needs you to pay attention to the 11th Malaysia Plan which was announced by the Prime Minister last Thursday," said Muhyiddin.

"It is a thick book of plans which are backed by a RM290 billion budget that directly affects you. It is a plan over the next five years that will culminate in the realisation of Vision 2020, when we must achieve developed nation status by our own means.

“It is a plan that is not just for urban development, but for industries and infrastructure that will elevate the rural areas as well.

"We want to wipe out poverty, ensure that there are no more Malaysians are living without basic necessities such as water and electricity. The nation will have infrastructure such as highways and rail tracks that will help rural industries realise their true potential.

"This is a plan you need to pay attention to instead of getting carried away by claims and reports that are not of benefit."
